Jim Schmidt, the owner of the Great Outdoors
Landscape Company, began his career as a self employed provider of
landscape maintenance services.
Jim attended the
University of Idaho and graduated with a Bachelor of Landscape
Architecture degree in 1987. While attending the University of
Idaho, Jim was employed as the campus Landscape Architect during his
senior and thesis years. After graduating, Jim relocated to San Francisco where he was employed by the distinguished landscape architecture firms Anthony Guzzardo and Associates and Melvin Lee and Associates as well as the architecture and planning firm of Sandy and Babcock. At these design firms Jim gained valuable real life experience in many capacities as a Landscape Architect. Jim was quickly acknowledged by his peers as a competent designer. In 1991, Jim moved to the Tahoe and Truckee area where he was employed as a landscape construction foreman. As a foreman, Jim was able to learn about the unique challenges of gardening in the high altitude environment from experienced contractors. In 1994, Jim founded the Great Outdoors Landscape Company.
